This dictionary contains more than 20,000 English words and a few phrases and abbreviations from various English dictionaries as main entries.
Originally compiled to serve as "The Mother Dictionary of the more than 100 English to Philippine language bilingual dictionaries," this work was started in 1986.
Based on spoken Filipino, this dictionary is user-friendly and would be useful to students, teachers, translators, and professionals.
Dr. Ernesto A. Constantino was conferred the rank of University Professor in 1993 by the University of the Philippines. Finishing his A.B. at the U.P. (cum laude), he obtained his Ph.D. in Linguistics at Indiana University in 1959. Author of more than 80 linguistic works and publications, Dr. Constantino has been a recipient of numerous Philippine and International Awards, including the Fok Ying Tung prize in 1998 for his "Contribution to the Promotion of National and Cultural Developments in Southeast Asia."
Consultant to the 1987 Constitutional Commission that eventually adopted Filipino as the National language, he now serves as a lifetime member of both the National Research Council of the Philippines and the Sentro ng Wikang Filipino Advisory Board, having made decisive contributions to the law creating the Filipino Language Commission.
